Swimming Lessons!

We just finished up our fun week of swimming lessons. Nat and Lindsay learned a ton this week. It's been fun watching them progress over the years. Lindsay has gone from the crying little girl in the water, to a super amazing swimmer. Nat has always loved the water and is awesome.
Nat going down the slide, she tried to make a basket as she went down... in this pic the ball is right in her face!
Off the board. Her teacher was out of the water at the time, that's her hand you can see, it looks like she is pushing Nat off the diving board!

Nat the little fish!

Learning to dive.

Off the diving board!

Super swimmer.

I have had such disappointment with swim lessons. Luke and Baila have had them two years in a row but no progress. Lainey is finally swimming but still tells us she doesn't know how so even she isn't super comfortable in the deep end.
My hope was to have my kids swimming by age 4 at the latest. So much for that goal! Our old house had a pool so I really miss it right now in this heat.

We have been going to this lady in Spanish Fork for 3 years now. She has this huge pool in her backyard. The lessons are only a week, but they are very intense and my girls have learned so much.
Lindsay totally swims now. She knows to put her head up and get a breath and then back down into the water for more swimming. When we move back to CA, we want a pool!
Perhaps you should get your kids into private swim lessons, Lori?!

I keep forgetting you live in Utah. lol. I was thinking I should call you and find out where you go. :)

I was given private swim lessons as a child but it's been hard to find them around here. The few places that offer them are soooo expensive.

I joke around that we should teach our kids how to swim like the girl from the book "The Glass Castle." Her dad would throw them in and let them learn the hard way. It's a true story! It is totally abusive but she learned how to swim after one lesson.

How long did it take for your kids to swim from the lessons? What ages? Maybe I am expecting too much...
I just know so many people who had kids swimming at age 3 and 4 so I'm frustrated. I didn't even bother signing them up this summer for lessons because it's been such a waste of time and money.

I will look into the private lessons again and see what's out there. That sounds like the best bet. Thanks so much for the help!

Lori,
I know at least 2 of my girls started swim lessons as babies, we did the mom and me class. The other 2 started at 2 (or 3?) and have been doing lessons every year. My 11 yr. old asked if she could be done, so I only have 2 doing lessons now.
I think we have been very lucky having the teacher that we have had the past 3 years, she is very good at teaching the girls proper swimming skills and won't let them move up to the next level until they have mastered certain skills. Even when Linds would be crying and wanting to get out of the pool, the teacher held onto her and helped her overcome her fears!
We don't have a pool, but every second we get a chance to swim, we do. Hotels, people's houses, ocean!
I think you just keep doing what you're doing, get those kids in the pool, get them lessons and expose them as much to the water as possible (bummer you don't still have your pool!).
I still think private is the way to go!!
I just dropped off my two oldest at the new Payson pool... speaking of swimming!

:)
